Hi,
Does magicspam filter both inbound and outbound mail? I ask because I want to make sure that mail sent using compromised scripts on the server is also filtered.
Outbound and Inbound Filtering
Re: Outbound and Inbound Filtering
Hello Tom,
To start with, it should be pointed out that MagicSpam is *not* filtering software. It is a methodology whereby SMTP standards and best practices are checked and applied, along with several other checks related to the remote (connecting) server.
For cases of blocking mail being sent by compromised scripts on the server itself, MagicSpam is not likely to be effective because a:) it is testing SMTP standards against its own server and b:) scripts are not likely to use SMTP but rather queue mail directly.
MagicSpam does however check any SMTP connections going through your server unless the server is one listed as 'trusted to relay' or the connection uses SMTP authentication to confirm it is a valid sender.
I hope this information helps.
