Understanding MIPSpace

A user has noted that information they requested from several well know companies (e.g., Land's End, Williams Sonoma) was not getting through and viewing the logs, I see that MIPSpace is the list blocking the email. How does a server become classified as a UBE source when it is also the server used to send user requested information?

If you do a host lookup and whois on the IPs that those messages originated from, do the IPs belong to those companies or are they from a 3rd party email-delivery company? Many large companies will use a 3rd party email company to handle information that needs to reach multiple sources.

Thank you, that makes much more sense to me now. In both the cases I listed, it was Responsys and not the originating company that owned the servers.

Other than white listing the likes of Constant Contact and similar services that are used by many companies to send newsletters, is there away to employ MIPSpace? It appears that the list blocks both user requested and UBE messages.

Unfortunately, there is no way for MIPSpace to differentiate between user-requested messages and unsolicited bulk email without whitelist entries. If the messages are coming from the same IP, they will be treated the same unless there is a whitelist/blacklist entry that states otherwise.
