Recommended Settings
Can anyone point me in the direction of low-tech suggestions for MagicSpam settings and any other hints and tips for ongoing management? Also, should I be using some anti-virus alongside MagicSpam? If so, any compatible products recommended? TIA
Re: Recommended Settings
In general the settings that are enabled by 'default' the MagicSpam module after installation is our 'base' recommended set. If you look at the 'SMTP Policies' tab page, there is a column header "Default". If the corresponding rule says "Enabled" under that, then this is one of our default 'recommended' settings.
The same is true on the IP Reputation page for individual lists.
As to additional items such as Anti-Virus - that is something that will be specific to your Plesk installation as opposed to MagicSpam. As you have posted in the MagicSpam for Plesk forum I assume you are running Parallels Plesk? I believe their current recommended antivirus is Dr Web? In any event, probably best to check in with Parallels on that front.

Re: Recommended Settings
Sorry, I just don't get it. I started with all settings on, then I changed to Default. Why am I still receiving the most obvious of Spam emails where the subject line has the usual sexual references, casinos, pharmacy pills etc. I can't find any settings with MagicSpam to either upload profanity lists, only email address black lists, IP's etc. Is there a more comprehensive dashboard with loads more settings that I can't see?
Re: Recommended Settings
MagicSpam does not provide content filtering. Instead, it provides a set of blocklists and SMTP policies that can be used to prevent your server from having to process spam. If you are looking for a content filter, many of our customers have had success using SpamAssassin in conjunction with MagicSpam. The two of them working together creates a great protection suite for your system!
If you would like to post some of the headers from the spam messages that have been getting through, we would be happy to take a look and determine if there are any settings we can help you tweak to get improved results.
