How MIPSPACE helps. A hosting company reacts.

We occasionally point out examples of companies that gain a reputation that would qualify them for inclusion in the MIPSpace database.

How MIPSPACE helps. A hosting company reacts.

Post by mipspace » Sat Nov 08, 2008 7:06 pm

This week was one of those good/bad weeks. One one hand, we finally had to react strongly to one hosting company, and rate thier complete IP block as marketing friendly. You can only play 'whack-a-mole' for so long. But on the other hand, another large hosting company who has been listed on the MIPSpace Reputation list for quite some time now finally got the message. And as a nice surprise reacted in a very positive manner.

A few years ago, a lot of cable companies did nothing about about spam until they got to the point where they could not get off Reputation Lists which finally motivated them to do things like controlling outbound Port 25, putting in outbound spam controls and rate limiters etc. Now some of those companies that ran those IP Reputation Lists might have had their own reputations, some good and some bad.. however it ended up being effective.

Now we prefer not to be overly agressive, but in some cases it was obvious we had to be. In this case the positive benefit was enormous.

The company found that over 30 companies using their services, were in fact all related, and responsible for abusive marketing behavior from thousands of their IP's. Now you have to give this hosting company credit. They took immediate steps and not only shutdown these operators, in spite of the loss of revenue it probably cost, but now that they admit they have (er had hopefully) a pandemic problem, they are also looking at instituting new methods to catch other cases like this before they get to the problem stage.

This company deserves Kudos' as this will make millions of users all over the world happier.. and as well, their legitimate customers will no longer be painted with the same bad brush.

(Awaiting permission to post their actions and company information)

We will keep you posted on this one.

In the mean time... todays new bad boy..

Oh, BTW.. they are on Beyond The Network America.

When will they start their own 'whois' server I don't know, but if many more cases like this show up, larger and larger portions of their IP Space will be appearing on MIPSpace.
