Why are MagicSpam whitelisted addresses flagged as spam by SpamAssassin?

Post by magicspam » Tue Nov 19, 2019 4:16 pm

If addresses that are whitelisted in MagicSpam are being blocked or flagged as spam and you have SpamAssassin enabled on your server, SpamAssassin is processing the email after it has passed MagicSpams anti-spam checks and is flagging it as spam based on the content of the email.

Content filters like SpamAssassin work well in conjunction with MagicSpam adding an extra layer of spam protection, however because there is not integration between MagicSpam and SpamAssassin a common problem has been that SpamAssassin will flag or block email that was exempt or HAM in MagicSpam. This is common for whitelisted addresses in MagicSpam because SpamAssassin has its own whitelists that are not updated when new whitelist entries are added in MagicSpam.

To fix this we recommend entering the same addresses that are whitelisted in MagicSpam into SpamAssassins whitelist. This will ensure that that email that email you want on your server is not blocked by either service.

Our development team is a aware of this and working on a feature to fix this but we currently do not have a timeline for when that will be released.
