Rejected because No PTR - Despite there being one

Post by responseit » Tue Feb 24, 2015 11:47 am

We are attempting to send from our company, which has a valid PTR yet for some reason our email is being rejected. I even disabled the reverse DNS check and it is still getting blocked. Thinking all our customers are probably getting the same.

Please help.

Hello responseit,

Thank you for your question - fortunately this is an easy case to solve! The DNS issue does come across a little bit odd, but we will overlook this for the moment (it is likely a DNS issue of some sort though).
It sounds like your customers outbound email is being blocked by MagicSpam. Simply make sure that your customers are authorized for mail relay and it will bypass this check. There are typically two ways to authorize a sender for mail relay:
  • Allowed to relay IP addresses
    SMTP Authentication
Of course, SMTP Authentication is usually the preferred method, because it is more secure, easier to maintain and gives you better visibility into what you are customers are doing.

Thanks,

Hello everybody.

We have the next trouble we get the next message with one email that we send for the domain torresrangel.com to autotransportesrouin.com

host autotransportesrouin.com [69.65.24.137]
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<xxx@autotransportesrouin.com>:
550-Your server IP address [198.1.105.161] does not have a valid reverse
550-DNS entry [198-1-105-161.unifiedlayer.com]. See
550-http://www.linuxmagic.com/best_practice ... e_dns.html for
550-more information. Protection provided by MagicSpam 1.0.8-4
550 http://www.magicspam.com

We try to fix this adding SPF records like this:

v=spf1 +a +mx +ip4:198.1.105.161 ~all
v=spf1 mx ptr ptr:198.1.105.161 ~all

But nothing is working, what is your recomendation to resolve this issue?

Regards

Hello trixboxmexico,

Thank you for your post and for including the logs. It appears as though the recipient server rejected the connection based on the improperly formated PTR record (please see http://www.linuxmagic.com/best_practice ... e_dns.html for more details).

However, we checked your reverse DNS today and it appears to be configured properly, this is great!

Are you messages still not getting through? if so, it could be because the recipient server is having a hard time looking up your new PTR record for some reason (however we have a hunch that everything is likely working now).

Thanks!
