Blocking a particular TLD

Is there any way to simply block all email from a specific TLD? Most of our spam seems to be coming from the .info TLD. It would just be easier to block the whole TLD then have to find specific domains/ips

Hello ackhelp - and thank you for your post!

While we do agree that .info domains seem to be booming quite handily (along with .biz and .tv) with marketing sources - we *strongly* recommend that blocking a full TLD is not the best approach - there are actual legitimate mail sources within those domain scopes and the possibilities of issues as a result are high.

One thing you could look into is to review a few samples of the 'uncaught' sources (via the MagicSpam Log Viewer) and see if the IP address is on a particular block list at http://www.linuxmagic.com/bms - based on what you are describing we suspect that you will likely find the majority of these messages are coming from a specific IP address or subnet that is likely already listed as a spam source that may be on a list that you do not at this time have enabled.

Barring all else, please feel free to post / forward some samples of said messages and we can certainly run a quick review and offer recommendations.

Thanks!

While there may be legitimate hosts using the .info TLD we've certainly never done business with any of them. Hosting our mail for a small business it would save much more time and effort to simply block .info domains and white list the 1 or 2 legit domains out there instead of hunting and pecking down random IP's of hijacked computers.

Just figure it would be a useful tool to have, especially for smaller businesses.
